Attitudes at Ft. Sumter

Don't let this blog post and it's pictures fool you...

The entire family woke up grumpy that day. Maybe we didn't sleep good the night before or maybe we just needed our own space. Whatever the case we felt frustration with one another and lacked patience most of the day.

Our plans were to tour Ft. Sumter and then walk Charleston in the afternoon. Despite the little attitudes that's exactly what we did.

To get to Ft. Sumter you need to take a ferry.

Once on the fort we were given about an hour or so to tour.
Picture of what was left of Charleston after the bombings of the Civil War.

Not knowing ahead of time we actually visited Ft. Sumter on the 153rd Anniversary of when the first shot was fired starting the Civil War.

The kids completed the Jr. Ranger Program...which probably added to our frustration because for some reason this one was really difficult.

Nevertheless leaving Ft. Sumter we felt blessed to get to see such an amazing part of history.

We headed into Charleston and took in the beautiful historic houses.
The Battery Carriage House Inn.

Layne splashed in a water fountain.

We walked past the Old Slave Mart and got to share with our children about how terrible slavery was and how it was one of the primary reasons that the Civil War was fought.

We walked down old cobblestone roads and marveled at the fact that horse drawn carriages would ride over these stones. Not a smooth ride whatsoever!

Taking a stroll down this beautiful park helped calm the feelings we were all dealing with that day.

Overall our experience in Charleston was great, it was our attitudes that could have made it better.

At our campground, The Oak Plantation, we got to have a little down time.

It's park like setting kept these girls entertained for hours.

Tomorrow we head to Myrtle Beach...we have rested and are ready to go exploring again. I know there will be good days and bad on this trip. I am thankful for both, the bad days help me to reevaluate and seek the Lord and the good days just make me so grateful for this journey I am on.
